INT. CLIENT’S BATHROOM - DAY
A toilet bowl. Awful stains all over the porcelain.
CAMILLA (30s, Latina, cropped black hair tied back) squirts a blueish cleaner around the rim.
She kneels down to scrub when a HOUSEWIFE comes in. She stands over Camilla and picks up the bottle.
HOUSEWIFE
Is this Lysol-brand cleaner? No, the methyl salicylate vapor gives my daughter hives. Clean it out.
Camilla scoops out the cleaner by hand.
INT. CLIENT’S KITCHEN - DAY
Camilla scrubs the top of a stove. Real elbow grease job.
A HOUSEHUSBAND puts a frying pan on top of her sponge.
HOUSEHUSBAND
2 PM. Gotta hit my macros. Thickening up my glutes so I won’t need a pad on my office chair.
INT. OFFICE BUILDING CUBICLE - NIGHT
Camilla wears a CLEANING COMPANY UNIFORM. She carries bags of trash and goes to a cubicle.
A BUSINESSWOMAN and her SECRETARY are undressing and on top of a desk. The Businesswoman looks up at Camilla.
BUSINESSWOMAN
Just kick it over to her. Or ask her to join in, either way.
The secretary kicks the trash can to Camilla, spilling it.
INT. THE MILLER’S HOUSE - UPSTAIRS HALLWAY - DAY
Camilla pushes a vacuum down the carpet. Perfect neat lines.
She stops at a large pink stain.
Camilla gets on her hands and knees to inspect it.
HAROLD MILLER (60s, silver haired, lanky) steps over Camilla, walking to a closed office door.
CAMILLA
Mr. Miller, what is-
He unlocks the office door, ignoring her.
DIANA MILLER (60s, dyed blonde hair, tight faced) walks up behind her, stopping at Camilla.
DIANA
You’re impacting the house’s ingress and egress, Camilla.
CAMILLA
Mrs. Miller-
DIANA
Please just call me Diana. I can’t get used to this new last name.
CAMILLA
Diana, what is-
DIANA
I meant, call me Mrs. Diana. I need some level of formality.
Camilla points at the stain.
CAMILLA
Is this vomit?
DIANA
Yes, but don’t ask me about that. In your line of work, you should be able to identify it.
CAMILLA
This is going too far.
DIANA
My son was celebrating a new business venture. Each time he starts a new business, I throw him a modest soirée. It was Friday, I knew you were coming Wednesday, I didn’t think it was too long of a wait. We’re already paying you to clean, so why waste time doing it ourselves?
CAMILLA
It’s an extra 50 for the day for the stain.
DIANA
Honestly. Harold?
HAROLD
Just pay her and get it over with. I’m trying to work.
He goes into his office and locks the door behind him.
Diana throws her hands up and goes downstairs.
DIANA
No one appreciates what I do for this house.
Camilla looks over her shoulder at Diana, smirking.
INT. LORI’S HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - NIGHT
Camilla laughs while sitting on the couch. She’s out of her cleaning clothes, now in a blouse and jeans, her hair down.
She’s sitting with LORI (30s, Latina, heavily pregnant).
CAMILLA
It was that easy!
LORI
It’s also only 50 dollars.
CAMILLA
I know girls that gave blowjobs for 50 dollars. That was in 2011 dollars, but still, money is money.
PAOLO (30s, Latino, stocky) sits down next to Lori.
PAOLO
She’s right, money is money, and rent is getting crazy. Camilla, get it however you can.
CAMILLA
Maybe Lori wants me to stay here so I babysit my nephew when he comes.
LORI
(in Spanish; subtitled)
I don’t like seeing you get taken advantage of, is all.
CAMILLA
And what was the last job? Making baskets of fries all day? I’m the one taking advantage of them. Puke, poop, blood, all gets cleaned up the same way.
LORI
(in Spanish; subtitled)
You’ve cleaned up blood?
CAMILLA
(in Spanish; subtitled)
No, but if I do, I’m getting more than 50 bucks.
Lori groans and shifts in place. Paolo hugs her close.
LORI
Cramp. I’m okay.
PAOLO
Okay? Then I’ll go back to the nursery.
Paolo leaves the room.
LORI
So, are you looking at apartments? A bachelorette pad?
CAMILLA
Sure.
LORI
It’s been long enough since Manuel. You can start bringing ‘em in, like you used to. Or get like me, have some cousins for playdates-
CAMILLA
Does Paolo need help in there?
INT. LORI’S HOUSE - NURSERY - NIGHT
Camilla and Paolo paint the walls of a nursery with a roller brush. Lori comes in and watches.
Paolo sets down the brush and rubs Lori’s back.
PAOLO
(in Spanish; subtitled)
I don’t like you in here, breathing in paint fumes.
LORI
(in Spanish; subtitled)
I’m not making my sister help and then leaving her alone.
CAMILLA
(in Spanish; subtitled)
It’s alright, I like to work alone.
Lori waddles back out of the room.
PAOLO
I keep thinking we have more time to finish this up.
CAMILLA
I can do it alone.
PAOLO
We’re getting close.
CAMILLA
I hope so. Any bigger and she’ll tip over.
PAOLO
You never wanted to have a kid? You and Manuel?
CAMILLA
Does the paint look even to you?
She dips the roller back in and paints on the other side of the room. She pushes hard, up and down.
CAMILLA
It’s dripping on this side.
PAOLO
It looks fine. You’re handy around the house. Lori and I’ll miss you. But you’ll have your own life, you’ll be doing your own things-
CAMILLA
The light will come through the window here. I need to paint this shade darker.
PAOLO
Okay, I can-
Camilla moves the tarp around and pours new paint in a tray.
CAMILLA
I’ve got it.
Camilla paints the wall a darker color, each brush in a perfect straight line. Paolo gives up and leaves her be.
INT. THE MILLER’S HOUSE - KITCHEN - DAY
Camilla cleans the Millers’ kitchen. She bends over, holding her eye to the countertop, checking for the slightest smudge.
She checks the time. 2:07 PM.
She looks around. No one around.
INT. THE MILLER’S HOUSE - HALLWAY - DAY
Camilla leans against the door to Harold’s office. She hears muffled legalese talk over a phone.
INT. THE MILLER’S HOUSE - KITCHEN - DAY
Camilla takes a KEYRING off of a hook in the kitchen.
